At New Start Childrens Centers we help children grow and thrive, achieving their potential in a safe, comfortable, homelike environment. We created New Start day care for young children because we feel that very young children develop more rapidly and securely in a homelike setting. We are concerned that many young children in day care centers may not be receiving the individual consideration they need to thrive. We feel young children are too often pressured to engage in highly structured group activities before they are ready, and we believe immensely in the power of learning through play; so there is always abundant time for free play in addition to the educational curriculum. Our practice is to allow children to develop at the pace that is relaxed and comfortable for them, and to offer them support and encouragement throughout their learning process. In this period of development when children are rapidly acquiring language, motor, and early social skills, individual attention helps children to learn rapidly and to gain self-confidence. We also believe young children feel secure in home day care because of the smaller number of children. Familiarity is sometimes easier learned in smaller groups; therefore children can further overcome shyness and build friendships. We believe in providing a warm and safe environment so children can fully express themselves. Throughout the day a child needs to experience lots of nurturing, laughing, smiling, and conversation.
